Design Principles in your Houzz

Houzz.com is a visual platform for designers, architects, builders, and regular folks to access amazing professional photographs, products, and resources. We are going to be using it to create Ideabooks for our course.

Step 1: Set up an account giving as little personal info as possible. Use your nspes e-mail unless you think you'll want to use this site in your own outside of school life. If that's the case, use whatever e-mail you like. Save your password somewhere.

Step 2: Create an ideabook. To do this go to 'Your Houzz' in the top right corner and select 'New Ideabook'. Name it PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN.

Step 3: The fun part. You will be finding spaces that you think are really well designed and attractive to you.

Step 4: When you find a great image click 'save' and in the comment box write which elements and principles are being shown and how the designer has done so successfully.  I suggest saving a bunch of images and then selecting the best ones and explaining why. You should have 7-10 images.

Pattern, Proportion, Emphasis, Texture, Line, Color, Repetition, Proximity

Do not simply search the element or principle and choose an image that comes up. I will check to make sure you have not. The idea is that you find spaces that you love and figure out how they are using the elements and principles. If you love Modern spaces focus on that. If you are obsessed with landscapes focus on that. This should be highly individualized and half the purpose is having you look at and recognize good design.

POST ON YOUR SITE
You will be posting your results (take screenshots) in the design fundamentals section of your website. You should title the project 'Design Principles in Houzz'
Depending how you set up your site it may work best to have a link from the Fundamentals Page to a separate page for this assignment.
